Unit 8 games: fluids
Four games to practice density, buoyancy, pressure and moving fluids. Each game has levels from easy to hard and a score. Your levels and score are saved on this device.
How to play
- Read the question, work it out (paper and a calculator are fine), then answer.
- Points: 10 on the first try, 6 on the second, 3 after that. Get it right to open the next level.
- Wrong? You get a hint. After two misses you can show the answer (no points).
- Try again (new numbers) gives a fresh question at the same level. Use g = 9.8 m/s², water 1000 kg/m³, air pressure 1.0 × 105 Pa.
- Type big numbers like 1.5e5 or 1.5x10^5. Answers within about 3% count.
1. Sink or Float
Predict what a block does in a fluid, then how much of it sits under the surface. Key idea: an object floats when it is less dense than the fluid, and the fraction under the surface is ρobject / ρfluid. 7 levels.
2. Cargo Loader
Tap + Add and − Remove to load crates so the boat floats exactly at the red waterline, then press Launch!. Key idea: a floating boat pushes aside its own total mass of fluid, ρAd = mboat + mcargo. From level 3 the boat waits on the dock, so calculate first. 6 levels.
3. Pipe Flow
Find speeds and pressures in pipes and tanks. Key ideas: continuity A₁v₁ = A₂v₂, Bernoulli P + ρgy + ½ρv² = constant along the flow, and Torricelli v = √(2gh). 7 levels.
4. Pressure at Depth
Divers, submarines and tanks. Key ideas: P = P₀ + ρgh (absolute), Pgauge = ρgh, and force = pressure × area. 7 levels.
