AP Physics 1, one idea at a time

A free self study site for the whole AP Physics 1 course: all eight units, from motion graphs to fluids. Every topic starts with a real situation, explains the idea in plain words, lets you play with a live animation, then walks you through examples and AP style practice with full worked answers. It works offline, on a laptop or a phone, in light or dark mode.

How to use a topic page

Every topic page has the same six parts, in this order. Go through them top to bottom; each part takes 5 to 15 minutes.

  1. Story

A real situation (a car at a light, a ball off a roof) that ends with the question the topic answers.

  2. The idea

The physics in plain words, then the same idea with numbers, step by step, with the "why" of each step.

  3. Play

A live animation: change every quantity, play, pause, step frame by frame, rewind, and watch the graphs. Predict first, then check.

  4. Worked examples

Basic, medium and AP level problems. Try each one, then open "Show solution".

  5. Practice

AP style multiple choice (instant feedback) and free response with hidden worked answers.

  6. Common mistakes

What students often get wrong, why it is wrong, and how to spot it on a test.

At the bottom of each page, tick Mark this page as done when you can do the practice without help. Your progress shows on the unit cards below. It is saved only in this browser.

Units

Each unit has its topics in order, a games page (levels with a score) and a full practice set in AP style.
